Manchester United's warm-up questioned - but what do you think?

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal partly blamed his side's performance in the 3-0 defeat at Everton on the pre-match warm-up - and you can judge the preparation for yourself.

Alongside his coaching staff, the Dutchman was convinced the preparation was not as "good as usual", before goals from James McCarthy, John Stones and Kevin Mirallas gave the Toffees a comfortable three points in the Super Sunday encounter in the Premier League.

"I had already the feeling and my colleagues [assistants] Ryan Giggs and Albert Stuivenberg had the feeling because the warm up was not so good as usual," said Van Gaal.

"In the last minutes before the game, you hope you can recover and stimulate your players but then it is too late.

"You have to prepare the match already two or three days before and Everton has done that and they have won because of that."

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer believes the club are "in a mess" as they fight for Premier League survival.

The Magpies, five points above the drop zone, are on their worst top-flight run for 38 years, losing seven in a row.

That has led to boss John Carver facing supporter criticism, while fans have staged protests against owner Mike Ashley's  running of the club.

"They're in a mess. They're in trouble," said Shearer, speaking on Match of the Day.

Saturday's 3-2 home defeat by Swansea left Newcastle on 35 points, four places and five points above relegation zone.

They have four games remaining and have played a game more than three of the teams below them.

Shearer, Newcastle's record goal scorer as well as former captain and manager, added: "I think 35 points might be enough to stay up. But I'm looking at Newcastle, and I don't think they're safe yet. Their goal difference is not great either.

"Newcastle will need another point and then I think they'll be all right, but I don't know where that's going to come from.

"I feel a bit sorry for John Carver, because he's from the area, he loves the football club; it's just a shame some of his players don't love the football club as much as he does."

Jose Mourinho: I'm last in line for manager of the year

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has counted himself out of the running to be named the Barclays Manager of the Season.

The Portuguese boss says he has 'no chance' of lifting the accolade despite bookmakers making him clear favourite to succeed last year's winner Tony Pulis.

“My manager of the year, I don’t know,” said Mourinho when questioned about by the LMA gong which will be announced next month.

However, the former Inter Milan and Real Madrid boss was in no dout about the chances of him adding to the two awards he picked up during his first stint with Chelsea.

He added: “No, I’m the last one, the last one because I never got manager of the month, so how can I think about the manager of the season.

“So, I’m out of that, but I’m not here to win the manager of the season, I’m here to win the Premier League.”

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has won the award a record 11 times while last year Pulis was rewarded for keeping Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

The Canaries are guaranteed a play-off spot but automatic promotion is now out of their hands.

Boro are not yet assured of promotion, with Bournemouth and Watford still in contention for the top two spots.

They survived seven minutes of injury time and an onslaught from the home side to leave Carrow Road with a crucial victory.

Albert Adomah claimed the decisive goal but the ball had already crossed the line from Tettey's flicked header from a corner.

Despite Norwich's second-half dominance they failed to register a single shot on target, due largely to an obdurate defensive display from the Boro back line.

The Canaries' best chance came in the opening period when Jonny Howson missed the target with a free header from six yards out.

Aston Villa 3-3 QPR: Christian Benteke scores hat-trick in six-goal thriller

A hat-trick from Christian Benteke helped Aston Villa rescue a point in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Premier League relegation rivals QPR.

The striker levelled to complete his treble with just seven minutes left after QPR looked to have done enough to climb out of the bottom three and leapfrog Villa.

Winger Matt Phillips had handed the visitors a shock lead early on, heading home Bobby Zamora's cross. But the advanatage didn't last long thanks to the first of two goals from in-form striker Benteke before half-time.

The first came via a deflection off Steven Caulker three minutes after Phillips' opener, before he calmly slotted home on the counter-attack to hand Tim Sherwood's men the lead just after the half-hour mark.

Rangers then turned the game on its head as Clint Hill scored for the first time in the Premier League before Charlie Austin bagged his 17th goal of the season.

However, Benteke rescued a point with a brilliant free-kick seven minutes before the end as the hosts moved three points clear of the drop zone while Rangers climbed to third bottom, still two points from safety.
